TOKYO –
Panasonic has announced a recall of approximately 640,000 drum-type washer-dryers after identifying a defect in their automatic detergent dispensing tanks that could cause electrical wiring to deteriorate and potentially catch fire.

The recall covers 21 models in the company’s LX series of drum-type washer-dryers manufactured between August 2021 and July 2025.

According to Panasonic, seven incidents involving fires or similar problems have been reported in Japan and overseas involving the affected models. An investigation found that detergent leaking from the automatic dispensing tank could come into contact with electrical wiring, causing deterioration that may eventually lead to ignition.

The company is urging customers who own affected models to stop using the automatic detergent dispensing function until corrective measures have been completed.

Panasonic said it will provide free replacements of the defective tanks with improved versions designed to prevent similar incidents. The company will also offer free inspections and repairs where necessary.

Customers can contact Panasonic by telephone or through its official website to determine whether their appliances are affected and arrange the necessary inspections or replacements.
