Homicide detectives are probing the death of a man in Melbourne’s outer north on Thursday evening in what police suspect was a targeted attack.
Emergency services were called to a property in Gypsum Drive in Wollert after reports a man had been found unresponsive just before 5.30pm.
Police said the yet-to-be identified man’s death is being treated as suspicious. A crime scene remains in place on Friday morning.
Footage posted to social media shows two black-clad figures running around the corner of Gypsum Drive into Lowline Way, moments before multiple loud bangs are heard.
Another two bangs ring out as they fumble at the door of a weathered red sedan. One man then climbs into the driver’s seat, while the other runs around to the passenger side.
As the driver floors the accelerator and the sedan speeds away, a third figure can be seen between the tree leaves at the other end of the corner block.
In a statement late on Thursday, police said no arrests had been made and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident would be ongoing. Police are yet to comment on Friday morning.
Melbourne underworld figure Athan Boursinos was shot in a laneway behind his family home in Wollert in July 2025.
The 21-year-old, who was part of a street gang controlled by tobacco kingpin Kazem “Kaz” Hamad and his cousin, was ambushed in broad daylight by hitmen hired by a NSW crime syndicate.
