Rory McIlroy is four shots off the clubhouse lead but only four holes into his second round at the DP World India Championship after play was suspended early on Friday due to bad light in New Delhi.
Torrential rain on the Thursday resulted in a five-hour delay to the opening round, and there were further frustrations for those still out on the course when play was halted just before 6pm local time on Friday.
The second round is scheduled to restart at 6.45am on Saturday.
McIlroy, who is bidding to win the Race to Dubai title for a record-equalling eighth time, opened the tournament with a two-under 70 on Thursday, while he started his second round with an eagle to sit four under when play was stopped shortly after.
Dutchman Joost Luiten, who had to play 34 holes on Friday because of the delays, Angel Hidalgo and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship winner Adrian Meronk were all able to finish their second rounds, and top the leaderboard on eight under.
Belgian Thomas Detry is also eight under, but is only through six holes of his second round, for which he is currently three under.
England’s Eddie Pepperell, who hit a six-under 66, and Todd Clements are both one shot back having also got into the clubhouse before the light faded.
Eugenio Chacarra is another at seven under, through five holes, as he looks for a strong finish to push his own challenge in the Race to Dubai rankings, currently sitting second.
Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre was level par through five holes, also at four under overall, alongside defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, who was two under after four.
McIlroy was third in the DP World Tour standings coming into this penultimate event before the play-offs.
Leader Patrick Reed got through his second round at three under, recovering from a double-bogey at the fourth, but is level par overall.
