RJ Mitte’s younger sister, Lacianne Carriere, delivered an emotional speech at her brother’s October 16, 2026, celebration of life in Brownsville, Texas. She recalled how her brother became a father figure to her after their mother was paralyzed in an accident. She said:
“RJ Mitte was my older brother, but I not only just lost a brother, but I also lost my father. My mom was a single mother, and when I was two weeks old, she was in an accident that paralyzed her from the waist down for the first few years of my life. And my brother immediately took on a father role.”

Expressing her grief, Lacianne shared that she is at a loss for words and just wanted to say that every part of her was RJ. She said they had a lot in common. She added that she misses her brother. Earlier, in a 2016 interview, the Breaking Bad actor opened up about caring for his younger sister after their mother’s accident.

She encouraged them not to feel alone and to reach out to others for support. RJ’s mother, Dyna, also attended the ceremony but did not give a speech.

However, when he didn’t pick up the call, it wasn’t unusual because he often slept till noon. So, she picked up lunch and went to Mitte. After reaching his place, she found him dead.
