Around 300 families from the YSRC joined the Telugu Desam ahead of the local body elections, with 200 families from Gollaveedhi in Tekkali panchayat of Srikakulam district and another 100 from Vizianagaram district switching sides.
Agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu welcomed the 200 families from Gollaveedhi into the TD by presenting them with party scarves at the Nimmada camp office. The inductions come amid a series of political defections in the Tekkali Assembly constituency ahead of the local body polls.
Atchannaidu called on party leaders and cadres to work collectively for the elections and stressed the need for coordination among alliance partners.
In a separate development, around 100 families from East Baliji Veedhi in Ward 10 of Vizianagaram city resigned from the YSRC and joined the TD.
The inductions were organised under the leadership of Kanakala Raghurama Rao, who recently resigned as the YSRC district spokesperson.
The families joined the TD in the presence of Majji Srinivasa Rao (Chinna Srinu), the party’s Araku parliamentary constituency observer and former chairperson of the united Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad, and his daughter, TD leader Majji Siri Sahasra.
