VIJAYAWADA: Vangaveeti Radhakrishna has emerged as one of the luckiest politicians in Jana Sena, securing the party’s mayoral ticket within just three days of joining the party.
He joined the party on October 14 in the presence of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and was named the Telugu Desam-Jana Sena-BJP alliance candidate for Vijayawada mayor on October 17.
Radhakrishna filed his nomination on Sunday, the last day for filing papers, arriving at the nomination receiving officer’s office in a procession accompanied by alliance leaders and workers.
After submitting his papers, Radhakrishna expressed confidence in the alliance’s victory.
Party-hopper: Radhakrishna is a party hopper. The son of former leader Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, he won the Vijayawada East assembly seat on a Congress ticket in 2004.
He joined the Praja Rajyam Party in 2008 and unsuccessfully contested the 2009 assembly election.
He later joined the YSR Congress, contested from Vijayawada East in 2014 and lost. Radhakrishna subsequently served as the party’s Vijayawada city president before moving to the Telugu Desam ahead of the 2019 assembly elections.
Though he did not contest the 2019 and 2024 assembly elections, he campaigned for the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance in 2024, particularly in the Godavari and North Andhra regions.
Radhakrishna said Vijayawada’s development would be his priority, with a focus on improving civic infrastructure.
