Following on from her breast cancer and brain tumour ordeal, Davina McCall has revealed she is suffering with cardiovascular disease – and wants full attention on big medical issues

Davina McCall has revealed she has cardiovascular disease in a fresh health update following her recent agony amid battles with breast cancer and a brain tumour.

The TV favourite has faced a number of health setbacks in recent years which includes terrifying brain surgery after being told she needed to remove a rare but thankfully benign tumour a matter of months after she was told she had breast cancer.

She had something else to tell fans when she took the mic during her Begin Again show yesterday. She announced she had just been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, the name for a group of conditions that impacts a person’s heart and blood vessels.

“I wanted to let you know, I also have cardiovascular disease, and this is a very important conversation to have,” she said on the popular podcast.

It’s not the first time the candid telly presenter has had to tell the world about her medical issues. Here, we take a look at her health struggles over the years as Davina says the power of sharing can help save lives.

Cardiovascular set-back

The former Big Brother host decided she needs to be open about her latest diagnosis so she could highlight the importance of women’s cardiovascular health.

Davina noted that she was told she had high cholesterol before being diagnosed.

She said: “I had high cholesterol and had it for quite a long time. It was deemed I had good cholesterol and that offset the bad or something.”

CVD is the name of a group of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels. It is often caused by a build-up of fat in the arteries, which makes it hard for blood to flow through the body, according to the NHS.

Shock breast cancer diagosis

Opening up to her followers about her breast cancer diagnosis, Davina said on Saturday: “I just wanted to tell you I have had breast cancer, I found a lump a few weeks ago and it came and went”.

“But then when I was filming the Masked Singer the show Lorraine, put signs on the back of their toilet doors saying ‘check your breasts’ and every time I went for a wee I did that, and it was still there. So I underwent a biopsy and it was indeed breast cancer and I had it taken out in a lumpectomy nearly three weeks weeks ago.”

The star confirmed that the disease had been caught early and it had successfully been removed in surgery.

‘Blindsided’ by brain tumour

In an emotional video back in 2024, Davina admitted she’d been ‘blindsided’ by her brain tumour diagnosis, given how healthy she believed herself to be.

Confessing that she had assumed she’d ‘ace’ the scan, Davina shared: “I was offered a health scan which I thought i was going to ace but it turned out I had benign brain tumour, which is very rare, three in a million.”

Davina revealed that doctors had feared the tumour could grow and cause complications, and so made the decision to operate.

Clarifying that the tumour is ‘very rare’, Davina also asked followers to pray for her, continuing: “I slightly put my head in the sand for a while, I saw a few neurosurgeons, had quite a lot of opinions and realised I needed to take it out. It’s quite big, it’s 14mm wide and it needs to come out because if it grows it would be bad. I’m having it removed. Say a prayer for me. I’m in good spirits.”

Menopause agony

Women’s health advocate Davina has been very open about the mental and physical difficulties she experienced during the menopause.

She says it made her feel as though she’d ‘lost three years’ of her life.

During a speech at the CIPD Annual Conference and Exhibition in 2023, ‘accidental activist’ Davina revealed that she’d ended up experiencing a number of symptoms that affected her work – including short-term memory loss.

Admitting that she had feared she’d ‘never work again’, Davina told attendees: “You don’t want to make a fuss because you’re embarrassed and you think it’s ageing. You feel like perhaps an older stateswoman in the business will not be valued and that the menopause will be ageing.

“So you don’t tell people that you’re struggling. And then, you think you’re in fear of your job, but then you don’t get any support. And then the worst thing happens: you really do feel like you can’t do it anymore and then you leave.”
