Selena Gomez, in her recent Instagram Stories, revealed the real reason behind her changed voice. She revealed that she won’t be able to change her voice, as she used nicotine a lot, and it is extremely hard to quit. She even warned her fans that if they are thinking of picking up the habit, they should not, as it isn’t worth it. She said:
“I’m not going to be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot, and nicotine is so hard to quit. It’s just not worth it. It’s so stupid, and it’s changed my voice. So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable; I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it.”
Selena revealed that she has stopped vaping, and she hopes that she can keep up with the habit. She added that it is really hard, but she’s fully confident she can quit. She shared:
“But I am really excited because I stopped [vaping] and I just hope I can keep it up. It’s really hard, but I know if you are going through something, you can get through it too.”
Selena has previously addressed the dramatic change in her voice, blaming throat swelling for it in 2025. She revealed that her throat swells, and that’s what happens. She also called it her battle with lupus. She has been battling the disease and has suffered a lot of side effects such as weight fluctuations due to the treatment and medication.
Earlier, in 2023, Selena talked about her weight and how people eagerly wait to find a thing to bring her down, as she was shamed for gaining weight. She also talked about her bipolar disorder and how she navigated it after her marriage to Benny Blanco. She said:
“It is helpful to have a partner that will understand where maybe the temperature is at, and meet you where you are, and then you kind of gradually understand what’s happening.”
For the unversed, Selena appeared at the Emmys because she was nominated for Only Murders in the Building. But more than her nomination, it was her changed look. The 34-year-old’s appearance left many viewers wondering whether she had another facial procedure. Although no one has confirmed cosmetic surgery, the internet has been sharing unfiltered opinions about Selena’s changed look.
Selena was dressed up in a strapless gold chainmail Louis Vuitton gown, which beautifully hugged her figure and had a soft mermaid-style skirt.
