Kate Ferdinand admits it’s a tough balancing act when it comes to her kids and step-children living in different countries after her move to Dubai with husband Rio Ferdinand

Kate Ferdinand has confessed to being wracked with “step-mum” guilt as she deals with kids living across two countries. The former The Only Way Is Essex star and husband Rio Ferdinand moved to Dubai with Tia, 14, Cree, four, and daughter Shae, two.

Rio’s two older children, Lorenz, 19, and Tate, 18, stayed put in the UK as they go in search of their dream football career like their dad. And Kate, 35, has confessed she has got into the habit of overthinking lately as she juggles the two locations.

On Instagram, she admitted the reason why she had been relatively quiet of late. She said: “I’ve got nothing to post. “But really, I have so much to post. I started feeling like none of it was worth sharing because it didn’t fit the version you are used to seeing of me on Instagram. Yet these moments actually make up the majority of my life. So here’s a little glimpse into the parts that don’t always make it on here.”

She went on: “I have five kids across two countries, I’m navigating motherhood and trying to be everything for everyone. Lately, I’ve been struggling with mum/ step mum guilt and missing everyone living in the same home.

“I’m building two businesses. Instagram shows you all the exciting parts, but there’s a lot of self-doubt, setbacks and figuring things out as I go along.

“I’ve had adult acne for over a year, which has started to clear, but it really knocked my confidence. I’ve been hiding behind a full face of makeup for a while, but I’m finally starting to try and embrace no makeup and my imperfections. It’s a work in progress!”

Kate added in her lengthy post: “I’ve had a reality check recently, and it’s impossible to do everything (I’ve tried). I put so much pressure on myself to do it all and it leads to burnout.

“I love keeping fit and feeling good, but I am no longer able to work out 5x a week, be there to take my kids to school and work. Some weeks are consistent. Some weeks not so much. The main thing I’m focusing on now is a healthy whole version of me which can look different week to week.”

Among the snaps Kate uploaded was a shot showing her without makeup. She also shared happy memories with her daughter Tia, while also sharing images of the oldest boys at home in the UK working out in the gym.

It’s far from the first time she has opened up about her tough times since leaving the UK behind. On an episode of her Blended podcast in July, Kate’s co-host, Nathalie, revealed how Tate and Lorenz initially reacted to the idea of getting more siblings.

She said during a conversation about sibling rivalry: “This is reminding me of Tate and Lorenz when Kate and Rio first got together. They said, ‘Oh, if they have a baby, we’re going to put it in the cupboard’.”

Kate, who nodded in agreement, went on to explain that they did not end up doing that when she had children with Rio. She added that “the two boys were not supportive of another baby” at first.
