X-Factor rapper Mason Noise’s life is very different more than a decade on from his row with Simon Cowell after starting a new career following a tragic life trauma

Raucous rapper Mason Noise was known for causing mic-dropping moments on the X-Factor, even throwing one to the floor before refusing to leave the stage.

But the devastating death of his girlfriend turned his world upside down, and made him change his life beyond recognition. Mason, whose real name is Mason Binnell, said goodbye to music – and it had nothing at all to do with his fiery showdown with Simon Cowell that left ITV viewers stunned.

It has been more than ten years since Mason made headlines for his dramatic clash with the music mogul, and he looks totally unrecognisable today after stepping away from the spotlight and transforming his life.

He has dedicated himself to helping others’ mental well-being and he had a huge change or direction after dealing with his own personal grief.

In an honest TikTok post, Mason told his followers that the cruel death of his partner made him look at life a very different way.

Speaking to the camera, he said: “After The X Factor, my whole life fell apart and it wasn’t for the reasons people think. It wasn’t because I dropped the mic and f****d my career up.

“I was on tour, I was hanging out with the stars, I was earning loads of money, I had labels looking at me.

“It wasn’t until after that when my partner died that my life felt like it wasn’t worth living anymore. All the dreams and hopes and ambitions that I was pursuing at the time felt utterly f***ing meaningless. I thought, ‘what the f**k am I doing?’”

His plans to conquer the music industry were over, he decided – with his priority instead a focus on his mental health.

Mason’s appearance has drastically changed from his time on the show. Back in 2015, he often wore snap caps and kept his facial hair neat and short. These days, he sports a longer beard complete with a grey chin stripe, nose piercing, and is often seen in a bandanna or bucket hat.

His bio on Instagram now describes him as a “Musician, Reiki Healer, [and] Inner-Explorer”.

He continued: “It felt like it had absolutely no substance in the face of what had just happened. I had to retreat in order to try and heal and pull myself out of the heartbroken, dark place I was in.

“I searched far and wide and looked at all sorts of different healing modalities in order to try and crawl back to myself somehow.

“It took me a long time and the reason I’m sharing my story now is because I think it might help some people.

“I want to tell you that if you feel lost, if you’re in this dark place, there is a life beyond that.”

The performer, now 33, became one of the most talked-about contestants in 2015 thanks to his row with Simon during the Six Chair Challenge. The would-be rapper stunned audiences when he slammed the amount of time given for his audition.

After a heated exchange, the X Factor boss told him to leave the stage, prompting Mason to drop his microphone and walk off in protest. Despite all the drama, he was later invited back for the live shows under the mentorship of Nick Grimshaw.

He ultimately finished in seventh place and even joined the live tour.
