Adele has reportedly pulled the plug on a top secret London concert as the British hitmaker prepares to return to the spotlight with her long-awaited fifth album

Adele is said to have cancelled a top-secret concert at the last minute. The hitmaker has taken time away from the spotlight since the release of her last album, 30, in 2021.

However, reports claim that the 38-year-old is quietly preparing to make her comeback and has already lined up a body of work. The Tottenham-born singer famously releases albums, with her age at the time of writing and producing them as the title.

It’s claimed that, although her last record was five years ago, the singer, who lives in Los Angeles, California, had secretly jetted back to Britain to record new material at Church Studios in Crouch End, north London. Hits by the likes of Sir Mick Jagger, Oasis, Paul McCartney and Coldplay have previously been recorded at the studios.

And Adele, who has maintained her British roots since moving Stateside, had even lined up a top secret gig. According to reports, the singer was set to test out her new music at Camden’s famous Roundhouse – although this gig has since been cancelled.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “She is getting ready for a big comeback and booked the venue as a secret way to get feedback on her new songs. She later pulled the gig. But can you imagine being a fan who got tickets for a mystery artist, then it turned out to be Adele?”

The source went on to explain that there are currently no plans to reschedule the performance. “SO it looks like she’s confident in her new material,” they added, before saying: “But new music is definitely on the way and she’s excited to roll out a new record next year.”

It was revealed in June that, despite Adele promising to take a “big break” following her Las Vegas residency ending, she was actually working on new music. And it’s reported that Adele has been spending at least a fortnight in London writing and recording.

Church Studios is where Adele recorded parts of her global smash 2015 album, 25. And they’re owned by producer Paul Epworth, an Adele collaborator who worked with her on the James Bond theme “Skyfall,” which won the pair an Oscar.

During her sell-out Las Vegas residency in 2024, Adele hinted that a long player will be a long time coming for the singer. “I don’t have any plans for new music at all. I want a big break after all this, and I think I want to do other creative things just for a little while,” she told fans during her Las Vegas residency back in 2024.

Despite four albums, all of which achieved astronomical success, Adele has only hit the road on three occasions. First, with her An Evening With Adele tour between 2008 and 2009; later, Adele Live in 2011; and, finally, her last full-length tour, Adele Live 2016, saw her travel the globe between 2016 and 2017.

And despite living in the States, she also had her Adele in Munich residency in the summer of 2024. During her Vegas residency, she hinted that with her new material, she would be prepared to hit the road.
