Daler Mehndi was recently disrespected during his live stage performance in the state of Uttarakhand as part of a Navaratri celebration event. In the middle of his performance, the cabinet minister of Uttarakhand, Subodh Uniyal, interrupted him and instantly started accusing him of intoxication, lip-syncing, and throwing shade at him for failing to perform well after being paid a sum of Rs 35 lakhs.
Anupam Kher was one of the many who spoke up on this insufferable action. Taking to his social media, he uploaded a video where he spoke about the incident and how he felt about it. He particularly mentioned how unnecessary the ‘insult’ was.
He said, “I have known Daler Mehndi ji for the last 25 to 30 years. And I know this much that he doesn’t drink as far as I am concerned,” He added to it talking about how wonderful he is as a person, saying, “He is one of the finest human beings that I have ever met… I am sorry you had to go through this.”
He also mentioned that it was not just the responsibility of his brother, Mika Singh, to support his brother, and that others in the industry should also stand up and defend Daler ji.
In his caption, he said, “I have known Daler-ji for many years, and I am also aware that he has not been in good health for some time now. Minister-ji, you may have had grievances regarding his performance. You might even have been upset, but was it really necessary to humiliate him like that, on stage, in front of everyone? This could have been conveyed to him privately; with the respect he deserves.”
He continued, “The recognition and respect an artist earns through their hard work represent the culmination of an entire lifetime of effort. For the past thirty-five years or so, Daler-ji has brought joy to us all through his songs. Surely, that contribution deserves some appreciation. Daler-ji, I have always known you to be a kind-hearted person who spreads love. As far as I know, you don’t even consume alcohol. I am deeply sorry that you have had to endure all of this. I would also like to say to my colleagues in the industry,”
