Actor Ian Puleston-Davies is reprising his role as Coronation Street builder Owen Armstrong after nearly 11 years away from the ITV soap, and Gary Windass may need to watch out
Owen Armstrong is returning to Coronation Street after a decade away from the ITV soap.
Actor Ian Puleston-Davies is reprising his role, and there’s set to be trouble for Gary Windass. Owen decides to move back to the Cobbles to live with his daughter Izzy Armstrong, amid trouble with Owen’s young grandson Jake.
His scenes won’t air until January 2027, but actor Ian is back filming very soon. After nearly 11 years, Owen returns to the Street, and it’s said he is far from impressed by Gary’s behaviour of late.
Blaming Gary for Izzy and Jake’s own drama, it’s been teased Owen’s comeback could spell trouble for Gary’s business at the builders yard. Commenting on his return after his exit in 2015, Ian said: “I can’t wait to pick up where I left off ten years ago!
“It’s brilliant to be back and to get stuck into a cracking storyline. Owen’s back and he’s still angry!” Coronation Street Producer Kate Brooks teased what was ahead.
She shared: “We’re thrilled that Ian is back, and Owen brings a ton of drama. As he joins forces with an unlikely alliance, he wreaks havoc on the Street, and his relationship with Gary is severely put to the test.
“Needless to say, there’s never a dull moment when Owen’s around.” It’s suggested Owen will be back for a while if not full-time, with it teased an unexpected alliance is on he cards.
It comes after Gary was sentenced to eight months in prison this week. His involvement in the cover-up of Theo Silverton’s murder, committed by Sarah Platt, led to him being sent to prison.
Jake has struggled with his dad’s fate, while it’s not clear when Gary will be released. Given it is an eight-month sentence, fans are anticipating a return at some point.
Maria was furious with her partner’s sentence, given the killer Sarah had just been found not guilty. Sarah has been released after months locked up, allowed to return home despite killing Theo.
Gary had been called by Sarah on the night to help her cover up the crime. He did this despite his reluctance, and hid the murder weapon.
It’s this cover-up that has seen him now face trouble with the law, and locked up himself while Sarah has gone free. This twist has left fans stunned, with viewers struggling to understand how the actual killer of Theo is allowed to return home, while Gary now faces a stint in prison.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
