Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has barred the allotment of the free symbols ‘Bucket’ and ‘Pen Stand’ in the ongoing urban local body elections, citing the possibility of confusion among voters with Jana Sena’s reserved ‘Glass Tumbler’ symbol.

State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha issued the order on Wednesday following a request from Jana Sena president K. Pawan Kalyan. He had submitted that the two free symbols resembled the party’s reserved symbol and could confuse voters while identifying their preferred candidates.

The order freezes the free symbols listed at serial numbers 14 and 51 in Table IV of the list of free symbols. They will not be allotted to independent candidates or candidates of registered political parties without a reserved symbol.

The SEC issued the order under Articles 243K and 243ZA of the Constitution and the relevant provisions of the Registration of Political Parties and Allotment of Symbols Order, 2001, to avoid confusion among voters.
