The Delhi Police on Thursday raised objections to the maintainability of a petition filed by All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora in the Delhi High Court, challenging a notice directing her to execute a “peace” bond before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM).
Bora, meanwhile, told the High Court that no permission was required to hoist the national flag. She also denied being involved in a separate protest call issued by the organisation CJP at Central Park in Connaught Place on October 16.
The court was hearing Bora’s plea challenging the police notice, which directed her to furnish a personal bond of ₹10,000. The proceedings concern the police action against the student leader and the direction to execute the bond to maintain peace.
Appearing for Bora, senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan termed her brief detention and the police notice “completely illegal”. He submitted that Bora was dealing with a separate protest call at Mandi House and had no involvement in the CJP’s call at Central Park.
“She is not involved with the CP Central Park call, and she was dealing with her own call at Mandi House,” Sankaranarayanan told the High Court.
Bora has challenged the police notice, questioning the legality of the action taken against her. The Delhi Police, however, has questioned whether her petition is maintainable before the High Court.
The matter raises questions concerning the police notice requiring Bora to execute a peace bond, as well as the circumstances surrounding her detention and the separate protest calls. Further details of the court’s proceedings and any directions on the maintainability of the petition were awaited.
