EXCLUSIVE: Jade Thirlwall is making waves as a solo artist following huge success with Little Mix and she had a motivational message for those hoping to make it in the music industry
Jade Thirlwall may have been pipped to the Mercury Prize Award on Thursday by Raye, but the former Little Mix star is a force to be reckoned with. The only way appears to be up for the star after her hugely impressive debut album, That’s Showbiz, Baby.
The South Shields native, 33, wowed the crowd at the ceremony in her hometown of Newcastle with an amazing rendition of Angel of My Dreams. Her first solo anthem broke into the Top 10 in the charts last year and has had a massive resurgence following Kylie Jenner’s Victoria Secret appearance.
Since the now viral moment, which saw Kylie walk in the iconic Fantasy Bra on October 18, the track had 18,000 streams in just one day across the United States. After Kylie appeared on the catwalk, the streams shot up to 284,000 – a huge 1,434 per cent rise.

Angel Of My Dreams later entered Spotify’s US Daily Top Songs at Number 197, two years after its release. And it is continuing to rise!
While the sky is the limit for the pop star, Jade is very much staying grounded. And she shared a sweet-but-powerful message regarding the secret to success to her younger fans, Jade exclusively told the Mirror: “Always believe in your dream and keep practising. You have to believe it more than anybody else.”
It’s a message she passed down to her niece, Amara, who featured on her track Before You Break My Heart. The tune first featured in her flawless performance at the BBC Proms.
And the strong advice is something Jade continues to follow herself. She has big plans for another album alongside producer of her debut tune, Mike Sabath. He told us: “I’ve loved that song [Angel of My Dreams]. England held it down with that song. Me and Jade are locked in on the new record, which is going crazy.”
Despite years of being in the limelight, both in a band and now as a solo artist, Jade admitted she still gets nervous – not that you could ever tell.
Speaking to the press before the Mercury Prize Awards, she said: “I mean I was really nervous before, but I actually feel quite nice now, surrounded by friends and getting a night in, you know, seeing a good reaction to the album. Whatever happens, no, it’s really good, I feel good.”
Jade rose to fame as part of Little Mix alongside Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson. The group, who were formed on The X Factor in 2011, went on to have huge success, bagging themselves five number one singles.
Following Jesy’s decision to leave the band the remaining trio continued for a short while before focusing on their own projects. Jade is going from strength to strength and admitted she is hopeful of a return to Glastonbury.
