A fire broke out at a warehouse believed to belong to Kurosawa Film Studio in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, shortly after midnight on October 23, prompting the dispatch of 40 emergency vehicles after a report that a battery was burning, with witnesses describing explosion-like sounds and vibrations strong enough to shake nearby windows.
Firefighters received an emergency call at around 12:30 a.m. reporting that a battery had caught fire inside the warehouse. Footage from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing above the building as intense red flames engulfed parts of the structure.
The warehouse is believed to be operated by Kurosawa Film Studio, a company that handles filming equipment and related materials.
A witness described hearing a powerful explosion and feeling vibrations from the scene. “It sounded like an explosion as loud as thunder, and the vibrations made the windows shake,” the witness said.
A total of 40 firefighting and other emergency vehicles were dispatched to the site. Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control, and no injuries were reported.
Investigators are examining information suggesting that the fire started near an area used for charging batteries. Police are working to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
The incident followed another building fire in Tokyo’s Kabukicho entertainment district in Shinjuku on the evening of October 22.
Firefighters dispatched 22 vehicles, including pump trucks, to the Kabukicho building, where the blaze was extinguished approximately two hours later.
The fire is believed to have originated at a restaurant that was operating at the time. According to the Metropolitan Police Department and other authorities, everyone inside the building evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported.
