A TV star has revealed the three conditions that prompted her to pull out of Celebrity Traitors, admitting the experience simply wasn’t worth the money on offer
An award-winning TV star has revealed why she pulled out of Celebrity Traitors at the last minute after initially agreeing to take part in the hit BBC reality show.
Actress and comedian Daisy May Cooper, who shot to fame alongside her brother Charlie Cooper in their award-winning sitcom This Country, had been lined up for the programme’s first series. However, three conditions surrounding her participation ultimately proved too much, with Daisy admitting she decided the experience was not worth the money on offer.
Speaking to The Independent, the 40-year-old opened up about what made her change her mind, explaining why the prospect of appearing on the show suddenly seemed far less appealing.
Daisy revealed that she and Charlie had initially agreed to appear on the show before becoming concerned about the arrangements they would have to accept.
“We panicked. We were going to do it and then they said, ‘Basically, you’re going to stay in a shit hotel,’ and I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can do it,'” she said.
The accommodation was not the only issue. Daisy explained that she had also been told she would be unable to speak to her children regularly throughout the two-week filming period.
On top of that, she would not be allowed to share a room with her brother, despite the pair having planned to take part together.
Ultimately, the combination of the hotel arrangements, limited contact with her children and separate rooms persuaded the siblings to withdraw.
“It just sounded like a f****** nightmare. I thought, ‘F*** it. It’s not enough money,'” Daisy admitted.
The comedian has continued to build her career since This Country earned widespread acclaim and won a Bafta following its debut in 2017.
Alongside Charlie, she created and starred in the BBC comedy, which drew on their experiences growing up in Cirencester. Since then, Daisy has established herself across television, appearing in two series of Am I Being Unreasonable?, with a third in development, as well as Sky’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Avenue 5, Celebrity Gogglebox and The Masked Singer.
Away from work, she is raising three children under the age of eight with her ex-husband and current partner, DJ Anthony Huggins.
Despite her packed schedule, Daisy was particularly keen to return to another comedy favourite, Last One Laughing.
Recalling her reaction when the opportunity arose, she said: “Whatever is on, f****** clear my diary.”
Daisy’s comments come as the latest series of Celebrity Traitors continues to keep viewers guessing.
Friday night’s episode ended on a cliffhanger after actress Sharon Rooney and comedian Joanne McNally received the same number of votes at the roundtable, leaving both facing possible banishment.
The deciding vote belonged to content creator King Kenny, who had been granted a double vote after receiving a dagger during a mission for being considered one of the most trusted players.
However, viewers were left waiting to discover which contestant would be eliminated, with the episode ending before Kenny’s decision was revealed.
The other players recognised as among the most trusted were traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster.
