Carrie Underwood is currently under the spotlight due to her recent appearance at the CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton event on October 21, 2026. Some social media users criticized her look at the tribute and called her ‘frightening’, while some described her style as a Mar-a-Lago face. Amid this, Carrie’s old remark wherein she explained why she never thought of marrying someone like her now-husband, Mike Fisher, resurfaced.
Carrie Underwood explained why she never thought of marrying someone like Mike Fisher
For the unversed, Mike Fisher is a former NHL player. In 2016, he reportedly co-founded a hunting lifestyle brand named Catchin’ Deers alongside his younger brother, Bud, and Austin Casselman. Back in 2020, on I Am Second’s digital series, Mike and Carrie: God & Country, Carrie Underwood explained why she never thought of marrying someone like her husband.

Carrie shared that Fisher grew up hunting and being outdoors, while she grew up on a cattle farm. She does not eat meat and tries to avoid buying leather items. She said:
“I love animals, I love life so much that I always swore I would never marry a hunter… not in a million years.”
Inside Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher’s relationship
Carrie and Mike met at a backstage meet-and-greet following one of her concerts in 2008. At the time, Carrie was based in Nashville, and Mike lived in Canada. They began long-distance dating, which consisted of regular phone calls, before eventually reuniting in person once more three months later.
The couple’s long-distance communication soon paid off on New Year’s Eve in 2008 when they shared their first kiss as the ball dropped in Times Square at midnight. Recalling the moment, Carrie told Glamour:
“We were in front of people, and he’s not a big PDA guy. I figured, I’ll go in for it because he can’t leave me hanging, right? So I made him kiss me in public.”
On December 20, 2009, the couple got engaged. It was Fisher who went down on one knee to propose to his lady love on a cozy afternoon in his home. The next day, on December 21, 2009, the former NHL player confirmed to the Toronto Sun that they were engaged, and they were both happy and excited. After almost two years of dating, Carrie and Mike tied the knot on July 10, 2010, at the Ritz-Carlton resort on Lake Oconee, Georgia.
Five years later, on February 27, 2015, the couple welcomed their first child together, a son named Isaiah. In an interview with E! News, Underwood couldn’t stop praising her husband, Mike, for being a great dad. She said:
“My husband is as wonderful as he is hot, and I feel like that’s rare. He’s amazing. He’s such a great dad, and he’s so supportive of what I do, and I’m supportive of him, and we just love our little family.”
In August 2018, Carrie and Mike announced a second pregnancy. At the time, she shared a picture of her baby bump on Instagram taken backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. On January 21, 2019, the country star welcomed her second child, a son named Jacob Bryan Fisher. In a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, Carrie explained that in her past relationships, she neither felt right nor wrong.

But somehow it did not work. However, with Mike, it was like a good partnership. She also described their romance as an easy relationship. The couple completed 10 years of togetherness on July 10, 2020. The celebration became more special because of Underwood’s love-filled note for her husband. She admitted that the past ten years had been pretty incredible with him. Cut to July 10, 2026: Carrie and Mike celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary.
