Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of Chennammana Kittur Utsav-2026 on Sunday, Shivakumar said the proposed Freedom Park would showcase the historical significance of Kittur and Rani Chennamma’s struggle against British rule.
He said Kittur MLA Babasaheb Patil had sought the construction of the park at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore, with visual presentations depicting the history.
“The government will provide funds for the Freedom Park in the next Budget. A government order will also be issued immediately in this regard,” he declared.
The Chief Minister said the NWKRTC would be renamed the Kittur Rani Chennamma Road Transport Corporation in the coming days. He also promised the necessary funds for the Rs 520 crore Channavrushabhendra Irrigation Project, which would benefit the Kittur region.
“We have taken up development projects worth around Rs 1,000 crore here, including a 100-bed hospital and Public Works Department works costing Rs 300 crore,” he said.
Paying tribute to Rani Chennamma, Shivakumar described her as one of Karnataka’s courageous fighters whose bravery and sacrifice continued to inspire generations.
“Chennamma’s courage is not merely history. It is a lesson in self-respect for the younger generation. Her valour inspires all of us, and her sacrifice will remain immortal,” he said.
