TOKYO –
Fukuoka-born sumo wrestler Arashifuji has earned his first promotion to the top makuuchi division ahead of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament, which opens on November 8 at the Fukuoka International Center, according to the latest rankings released by the Japan Sumo Association on October 26.

Arashifuji, a native of Umi in Fukuoka Prefecture, belongs to the Isegahama stable and will make his top-division debut in his home prefecture.

He began his professional sumo career at the Miyagino stable in the March 2024 tournament, entering at the bottom of the makushita division under a special qualification system that allows accomplished amateur wrestlers to start above the lowest ranks.

He transferred to the Isegahama stable in April 2024 and continued his rise through the professional rankings, earning his first promotion to the second-tier juryo division at the Nagoya tournament in 2026.

His latest promotion marks another milestone in his career, bringing him into sumo’s highest division for the first time as he prepares to compete before a home crowd in Fukuoka.
