A video showing a group of Israelis singing the Hanuman Chalisa at a beach in Tel Aviv as a tribute to Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar has gone viral on social media.
The video shows an image of Lord Hanuman and a photograph of Captain Smit Machchhar in the background with Thank You Note, while a group of women dressed in white sing the Hanuman Chalisa with deep devotion.
Captain Machchhar foiled a hijacking attempt in the cockpit of a Flydubai flight on September 30, saving the lives of several passengers.
Machchhar speaking to Prime Minister Narendra Modia after the incident said, “Whenever I feel pain, I just chant Hanuman Chalisa. At that time, too, I was only chanting Hanuman Chalisa. And I know that God is with me. I have not thought even for a moment that I will be able to talk to you ever. I never thought.”
Machchhar is a seasoned pilot who currently serves as a direct-entry captain with UAE-based carrier Flydubai. He has more than 13 years of commercial aviation experience and around 9,750 total flying hours, predominantly operating Boeing 737 aircraft. Before joining Flydubai, he spent 11 years with Indian airline SpiceJet, where he served as a Line Training Captain.
