Harry Kane and his ‘best friend’ Kate lit up the Ballon d’Or awards last night, and there are some special reasons why they are one of the strongest couples in showbiz
When Harry Kane cemented himself as the best player in the world last night, he didn’t have to look far to find the person who made it all possible.
Loyal wife Kate may not have been allowed to sit next to him when the England captain discovered the news he had joined the game’s elite, but there was nobody else he would rather celebrate his world-changing moment with.
Even though partners were planted elsewhere at the London Palladium, she was of course there for the night her husband got his hands on the Ballon d’Or – the crowning moment of an incredible career and the most prestigious individual honour there is in football.

He credits his ‘best friend’ with making him what he is today – officially the best player on the planet.
The committed couple have quite the story, and it all started when they were love-struck teenagers looking to make an impression in the school playground.
Childhood sweethearts
We’ll never know if it was smooching behind the bikesheds, but they caught each other’s eye in class and there was no stopping nature taking its course.
Harry’s prom date later became his wife after they first met at Larkswood Primary School before both going on to study at Chingford Foundation School in Waltham Forest.
The school has become well known for producing footballing talent, with former England captain David Beckham also among its former pupils. An old photograph from their school days even shows Harry and Kate posing alongside Beckham as teenagers. Was it the moment they really got chatting?
In it for right reasons
Their adorable relationship has stood the test of time, and there’s a good reason for that.
Harry previously admitting he feels fortunate to have found his partner before his career took off because he knows why she is with him – and it has nothing to do with fame and fortune.
He told the Standard: “If I were single now and meeting people, you’d never know if they were with you for the right reasons.
“Is it the money? You’d never really know. So, I’m lucky that I’ve got a childhood sweetheart.”
Hush-hush wedding
While some showbiz wedding get more build up than the World Cup, Harry and Kate kept things very quiet.
After dating for well over a decade, Harry proposed during a holiday in the Bahamas in 2017. The couple announced their engagement with a photograph on social media showing Kate proudly displaying her ring while standing on the beach.
They told us no more than that. Two years later, in June 2019, they married during an intimate ceremony at an undisclosed location and they did it in secret.
Neither Harry nor Kate revealed exactly where the wedding took place, choosing instead to keep the celebrations largely private. They did share their special moment with fans online a few days after.
Vile troll abuse
It’s not all been straight-forward for the couple.
Harry hit out after internet low lifes suggested that “he could do better” and claimed Kate didn’t fit the stereotypical image of a WAG.
The Bayern Munich star addressed the “hurtful” reality, calling out how easy it has become for people to hide behind a screen and throw abuse as if it’s normal behaviour.“It’s far too simple for people to go online, hurl insults and think that’s acceptable,” he said.
Their ever-growing family
Forget fooball – family has always been the centre of Harry and Kate’s lives. Their eldest daughter, Ivy Jane Kane, was born in January 2017, just months before Harry captained England for the first time.
A second daughter, Vivienne Jane Kane, followed in August 2018. The family then welcomed their first son, Louis Harry Kane, in December 2020.
In August 2023, Harry and Kate announced the arrival of their fourth child, another son named Henry Edward Kane. Sharing the news on Instagram, Harry wrote: “Welcome to the world Henry Edward Kane. 20/8/2023. Love you baby boy!”
The family also own two Labrador dogs, Brady and Wilson, who regularly feature in social media posts.
Kate’s own career
While she is often recognised as ‘Harry Kane’s wife’, Kate has established her own career away from football. After studying sports science at university, she qualified as a personal trainer.
Fitness remains one of her passions and she occasionally shares workouts and healthy lifestyle advice with her followers on Instagram.
Kate has also supported charitable projects linked to her husband’s Harry Kane Foundation.
She previously collaborated with jewellery brand Loquet London to create a special collection helping to raise money for the foundation’s work promoting positive mental health among children and young people.
