Actor Imran Khan has received temporary relief from the Bombay High Court in connection with the ‘Leave India’ notice issued against him by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The court has deferred the hearing of his petition to November 2, 2026, after the Central government sought additional time to present its response.
The actor had been directed to leave India by October 28 following his reported participation in a protest in Mumbai. However, with the deadline approaching, the High Court has ordered that the notice remain on hold until the next hearing. The Centre has also assured the court that no action will be taken against Imran during this period.
According to reports, Imran, who is said to be a US citizen and holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, had approached the Bombay High Court to challenge the FRRO’s decision. Through his petition, the actor questioned the legality of the notice directing him to leave the country.
As reported by Bar and Bench, the matter came before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Advait Sethna. During the proceedings, the court was informed that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta would be appearing on behalf of the Central government.
Representing Imran, senior advocate Venkatesh Dhond requested that the case be heard in the afternoon, considering the urgency of the matter and the approaching deadline.
During the hearing, the Additional Solicitor General requested more time to respond to the petition and suggested that the matter be taken up the following Monday.
Expressing concern over the deadline, Dhond told the court, “but I have to leave tomorrow.” In response, the government’s law officer assured him that no immediate action would be taken, stating, “Nothing will happen. That is an oral assurance.”
Following the exchange, the Bombay High Court agreed to postpone the proceedings and scheduled the next hearing for November 2 at 3 pm. The court also directed that the FRRO notice remain in abeyance until then.
