While the Jets’ season has gotten off to a frustratingly familiar 2-5 start, a similar stumble by the Colts provides a silver lining.
The Jets own the Colts’ first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft as a result of last year’s Sauce Gardner trade, a pick that currently sits at No. 7 — and could get higher as the Colts are waving the white flag.
A week after firing general manager Chris Ballard, Indianapolis began its fire sale on Tuesday by trading stud guard Quenton Nelson, an eight-time Pro Bowler, to the Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
The Colts are 2-5 and now figure to be worse as running back Jonathan Taylor and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner are also candidates to be dealt.
The Jets have three first-round picks in 2027; their own currently sits at No. 10, and the Cowboys pick they received in the Quinnen Williams trade is at No. 12.

Jets GM Darren Mougey got two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell for Gardner last year. They used the Colts’ 2026 first-rounder to take tight end Kenyon Sadiq at No. 16.
The Jets got a 2026 second-rounder, 2027 first-rounder and defensive tackle Mazi Smith (who was let go in the offseason) for Williams.
The Colts have lost three straight — including a Week 6 defeat to the previously winless Titans — and hit the road to take on the Jaguars (4-2) this Sunday.
