Bhopal: Heads started rolling in the hooch deaths in two districts in Madhya Pradesh with the state government transferring their collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) on Tuesday.

In a minor reshuffle in the bureaucracy as well as police administration, the state government transferred collector and SP, Ruturaj and Puneet Ghelot respectively, of Dewas district.

The government move comes in the wake of the death of ten people in Chandana village in Dewas district between October one and October 15.

The Opposition Congress has alleged that the deaths were caused due to consumption of spurious liquor, while the local administration denied it claiming that some of them died due to natural causes.

The local administration has further said that viscera of two deceased were sent for forensic tests to ascertain the causes of deaths and the reports were still awaited.

The state government on Tuesday also placed three excise officials of the district under suspension in the wake of the alleged hooch deaths.

The suspended excise officials included Dewas district excise officer Basanti Bhuria, assistant district excise officer Nilesh Pawar and excise sub-inspector Rajesh Khanna.

The state government also transferred collector and SP, Pratibha Pal and Anurag Sujania respectively, of Sagar district.

The move comes in the wake of the recent hooch tragedy in Banda and Sahagarh subdivisions in Sagar district in which 16 people died due to consumption of spurious liquor.

Unofficially, the death toll has been put at 32.
