Bizarre battlefield footage from Ukraine shows a naked Russian mercenary holding up a sign pleading for help as a Ukrainian drone closes in on his location.

In a video shared on social media, the nude fighter is seen displaying a homemade sign reading “Please help me!” in English, as he kneels in the grass in an apparent act of surrender, Ukrainian outlet Censor reported.

The drone zooms in on the soldier, who holds up his sign so it can be read, before continuing through the open terrain among grass and bushes.

It isn’t clear when or where exactly the video was taken, before it was posted by a Ukrainian military Telegram account on Thursday.

The man in the video hasn’t been identified, but is speculated to be a foreign mercenary, one of almost 50,000 recruited from over 150 countries and territories into the Russian armed forces since the start of its full-scale invasion in 2022.

Russia has increasingly looked to fighters from the Third World to boost its flagging army, often reserving them for suicide missions.

On Monday, Ukrainian intelligence identified a Botswanan national who fought for Russia and was killed in the Luhansk region.

The man in the video hasn’t been identified, but is speculated to be one of Russia’s many foreign mercenaries.

Pako Namogang, 25, was recruited through WhatsApp and sent into occupied Ukrainian territory after only brief training, Censor reported.

In July, Ukrainian intelligence reported on two Cameroonian citizens killed on so-called “meat assaults” for Russia just weeks after signing their contracts, Ukrainian outlet UA News reported.

Ngulure Ibrahim Nkite, 23, arrived in Russia in February on a one-year contract to serve as a rifleman in April and was killed weeks later in occupied Donetsk in May, the outlet reported.

The second Cameroonian mercenary, 25-year-old Tapingjeu Namekong Loik, signed a contract with the Russian army in March and was killed in April in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In August, Ukrainian military intelligence identified Filipino national Jeric Jumadil Undol, 37, as a mercenary killed in May in Donetsk, just weeks after signing his military contract, UA News reported.
