The trailer of Eetha, starring Shraddha Kapoor, was released on October 30. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the biographical drama is based on the life of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, one of Maharashtra’s most celebrated Lavani and Tamasha performers.
The film aims to capture Vithabai’s journey as an artist, tracing her struggles, determination and rise to prominence in the world of folk theatre.
The trailer opens with Shraddha’s character looking battered and broken. Seemingly on the verge of giving up, she finds herself caught between her ego and her faith in herself. In one of the opening scenes, she picks up mud and throws it at a life-sized cutout of her own photograph. It is juxtaposed with her voice over saying, “You once said, let’s see what breaks first. Your trust or your ego. My trust is my ego.”
The trailer then cuts to glimpses of her struggles as her glory begins to fade. As she fights to protect her art, traditions and cultural identity, the challenges threatening to derail her journey become increasingly evident.
However, a reminder of her own words reignites her determination. Someone tells her that if she dies without trying, she will be remembered as helpless, but if she dies dancing, she will be remembered as a legend. The words appear to give her the strength to fight back.
The subsequent scenes show her return to the stage, with glimpses of her singing and dancing before massive crowds. The trailer captures her transformation from a woman on the verge of defeat to a performer determined to reclaim her place and leave behind a lasting legacy.
