Away from the TV sets and shows, Romesh Ranganathan is loved-up with his wife, Leesa
He’s one of the UK’s beloved funnymen, but what do we know about Romesh Ranganathan‘s rarely-seen wife?
The presenter and comedian has been a staple on screens for several years. From stints on Celebrity Traitors and The Weakest Link to Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening and Romantic Getaway, Romesh has kept himself busy.
Away from the TV sets, though, Romesh is loved-up with his wife Leesa and is a proud father to three children as well. But when did he meet his wife? Here’s everything we know about Romesh and his wife Leesa’s romance.
Romesh’s wife Leesa
Romesh and Leesa met when they were both working in the same secondary school – he was a maths teacher while she taught drama. After tying the knot in 2009, the couple went on to welcome three children – Theo, Alex, and Charlie.
In 2018, Romesh gushed over Leesa, praising her for her support over the years, and he believes he wouldn’t have had a successful comedy career without her by his side. He told Marie Claire: “When I started doing stand-up, I resigned from my job as a maths teacher and, three days before I was due to leave, my dad passed away.
“I wasn’t able to focus on work, we couldn’t pay the bills, and our car was taken away, but Leesa never showed a lack of faith. I felt I’d put us through a bad patch and not for a very noble reason – being a comedian is a very vacuous thing to decide to do – but she came to all my shows and gave me feedback. Without her support, I wouldn’t have been a comedian.”
Romesh on his marriage
In 2024, Romesh candidly opened up about how his career in comedy threatened to ruin his marriage. The TV star revealed to the Mirror that he and Leesa had to work at “being really in love” again.
Romesh explained: “I lived up to the ‘delivered very little’ stereotype. You are in and out. Often, I would be knackered from working or being on tour, and I’d come back in and just not be very good as a person. My chat wasn’t very good. I would just slump on the sofa.
“You can say you’re tired, fine, but you need to be making a bit of an effort, and that definitely slipped.” He sighed: “The truth is, you get caught up in stuff. You’ve got to appreciate the person who is at home more.”
He added, “There have been months. If not the best part of a year, when you are talking to each other for functional reasons. ‘What’s happening with the kids tomorrow…’ and those are all your conversations are. This is what happened to Leesa and I. We stopped investing in our relationship.”
Romesh on ‘getting back to being in love with wife’
Meanwhile, a few years back, Romesh spoke about the struggles he and Leesa have faced in their romance. He explained to Gabby Logan for her podcast The Mid-Point (MUST): “Going fine isn’t good enough, really. You are not having a relationship.
“There was a time when we had to get back to being really in love with each other. Not that we weren’t ever in love with each other, I have never not been in love with Leesa and I hope she hasn’t not been in love with me. But I feel like there have been times when the relationship has been a relationship in name only.”
Romesh also said that despite his busy workload, his wife has never told him he needed to walk away from his job. He shared: “Even if times were hard, and it did go wrong for a while, she has never said ‘you need to stop’.”
