Vijayawada:Remo, a Labrador from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Dog Squad of the Vijayawada Division, has brought laurels to South Coast Railway by securing the runner-up position in explosive detection and the ‘Best Dog in Dog Show’ title at the 19th All India RPF Dog Competition held in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The six-day national-level competition, organised by North Central Railway from October 22 to 27, witnessed the participation of 73 dogs representing 17 railway zones across the country.
The participating dogs competed in three specialised categories — explosive detection, narcotics detection and tracking. While 27 dogs competed in explosive detection, 23 each participated in narcotics detection and tracking.
Remo secured second place in the highly specialised explosive detection category, demonstrating its exceptional skills and training. It also won the ‘Best Dog in Dog Show’ award in recognition of its outstanding performance and presentation.
The achievement was attributed to the dedicated efforts and professional training provided by its handler, Assistant Sub-Inspector B. Vijayaraju, and assistant handler, Head Constable G.G. Mahesh Babu.
The senior divisional security commissioner of the Vijayawada Division, Shanmugam Vadivelu, felicitated and appreciated the Dog Squad team on October 30. He particularly commended the handler and assistant handler for their dedication, commitment and hard work and lauded Remo for bringing distinction to the division at the national-level competition.
RPF Inspectors Madhusudan, Narasimha and Rathnam, and Dog Squad Sub-Inspector Prasad were present on the occasion.
