Kakinada: Kakinada police have launched a technology-based initiative to strengthen security arrangements for the local body elections in the district. The TRACE (Tracking Routes, Alerting and Coordinating Emergencies) app, along with a control room dashboard, has been developed to monitor police deployment and their response to emergencies in real time.

District superintendent of police G. Bindu Madhav launched the app and the dashboard on Saturday saying the measure monitors 49 route mobile forces, 12 striking forces, and six special striking forces simultaneously, while covering 143 polling locations.

The SP underlined that all polling locations under the Pithapuram, Gollaprolu, Samalkot, Peddapuram, Tuni, and Yeleswaram police stations have been mapped on the app.

The location of each route mobile is updated at the control room every 30 seconds, he pointed out. The dashboard displays the movement of vehicles, those that have stopped, and phones that have lost signal. When a route mobile visits a polling location, the location turns green on the map automatically. Locations that have not been visited for a long time turn red, enabling officers to direct vehicles there.

In the event of a law and order problem or emergency, the officer on duty can press the SOS button on the app, triggering an alarm in the control room, which automatically alerts the nearest police vehicle. Tense situations or unwieldy crowds at polling locations can also be reported immediately through the app, along with photographs. A hotspot map identifies areas where trouble is reported to be building up, enabling deployment of additional forces. Bindu Madhav said the app would work only on the mobile number registered for each route. Senior officers can monitor security arrangements from anywhere through the TRACE Monitor app on their phones. He said the system would improve coordination by bringing all polling locations and police vehicles onto one platform, enabling officers to respond to any situation in real time. .
