Vijayawada: Polling was halted in the 55th division of Vijayawada after the election symbols of two candidates were interchanged on the ballot paper.

The incident occurred at Old Rajarajeswaripeta in the Vijayawada West Assembly constituency during the Andhra Pradesh municipal elections.

The Congress Party symbol was printed against the name of YSR Congress candidate Sheikh Hasan Basha, while the fan symbol appeared against the name of Congress candidate Shareef Sheikh.

The YSR Congress candidate lodged a complaint with Returning Officer Chakravarthy, alleging that the symbols had been interchanged on the ballot paper.

Following the complaint, polling in the 55th division was suspended. According to information, polling is expected to resume after a gap of about two hours, once fresh ballot papers are printed.
