The Telangana Labour Department has issued a notice to Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of Irumudi, following a complaint alleging possible violations of child labour regulations involving a minor girl’s participation in the film’s shooting and promotional activities.
The complaint was lodged by C Mahesh Babu, founder-president of Jai Lok Satta (Social Justice Forum), who raised concerns over the minor’s involvement in the film’s production and publicity events.
Acting on the complaint, the Joint Commissioner of Labour, Ranga Reddy Zone, has directed the production team to appear for an inquiry on November 4 at 11 AM at Anjaiah Karmika Samkshema Bhavan in RTC X Roads. The producers may also depute an authorised representative to attend the inquiry.
The Labour Department has sought clarification on whether the makers obtained permission from the District Magistrate and secured parental consent before involving the girl in the shoot.
It has also asked the producers to furnish details of her working hours, attendance records, educational arrangements and the safety measures implemented during filming.
Another important aspect under scrutiny is her remuneration. The department has sought details on whether 20 per cent of the payment made to the minor was deposited into a fixed deposit account in her name, as required under the relevant provisions.
The inquiry will also examine her participation in promotional events, particularly whether the conversations and language used during these engagements had any implications for the minor’s dignity and safety.
Mythri Movie Makers have been asked to submit all relevant documents and clarifications during the inquiry. The department will examine the submissions before deciding on further action.
