Social media is having a field day imagining popular Telugu stars in mythological avatars. Memes portraying Mahesh Babu as Lord Rama, Prabhas as Karna and Jr NTR as Lord Murugan have already been doing the rounds. Now, Ram Charan has joined the list, with speculation suggesting that he could be seen as Lord Krishna in his upcoming film with director Sukumar.
After several delays, the much-awaited muhurat ceremony of Ram Charan and Sukumar’s next film, tentatively titled RC17, was finally held recently. However, it was the poster released on the occasion that caught everyone’s attention. Its resemblance to Lord Krishna has reignited an old rumour linking the project to a Gujarati film.
Nearly two years ago, reports suggested that Ram Charan was being considered to play Lord Krishna in a remake of the Gujarati film Lalo. The project was reportedly supposed to be produced by a Bollywood filmmaker, with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s name also being mentioned in industry circles. Now, the Krishna-like imagery in the RC17 poster has given fresh life to those speculations.
However, sources close to the development maintain that Sukumar is unlikely to take up a remake, as the filmmaker has been working on an original subject for Ram Charan. Reportedly, he has spent nearly two years developing the script, determined to come up with a compelling story for the Mega hero. Expectations are naturally high, considering the success of their previous collaboration, Rangasthalam, and Ram Charan’s remarkable rise in stardom since then.
Sukumar is said to have been concentrating on RC17 ever since the release of Pushpa 2, taking his time to fine-tune the narrative. The film is expected to go on floors soon, although the makers are yet to announce the female lead and music composer. Whether Ram Charan will actually be seen in a Krishna-inspired role or the poster is merely a creative representation remains to be seen. For now, the old Gujarati remake rumour has found fresh ammunition.
