Freshly reunited pop group S Club have opened up about the real reason Hannah Spearritt will not join them on their upcoming tour and what really happened with that Claudia Winkleman interview

S Club won’t stop moving next summer as they once again reach up for the stars on a new tour. The former seven-piece group are making a comeback for 2027, but without Hannah Spearritt.

Music mogul Simon Fuller formed the group back in 1998. The original members were Hannah, Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Rachel Stevens and Paul Cattermole.

The group were together until 2003 and had a short comeback from 2014-2015. They decided to reunite again back in 2023, but just weeks later, Paul died, aged 46 years old, after suffering a haemorrhage and a cardiac arrhythmia.

His death triggered panic attacks in former girlfriend Hannah, who left the band after being unable to cope with both a life in the spotlight and her grief.

Speaking to the Sun about their former bandmate, who now lives in Costa Rica, Jo O’Meara says: “She’s started a whole new life for herself, which is so exciting for her. So she’s over there living life, doing what she’s doing, and we’re over here reaching for the stars.”

She added that it “worked out perfectly for everyone” and said Hannah gave the band her blessing for their next tour. Tina Barrett added that they wished her the best as she had been “part of our journey”.

In an earlier stage of their journey, just before their break-up in 2003, they sat down with Claudia Winkleman for an interview on live TV. In an unearthed and now viral clip, Claudia asks the group if they are “grumpy” because they haven’t “made a mint” from their time together.

The band then joke that they wanted a breath mint before adding awkwardly that they felt “lucky” to have what they did. But their publicist interrupted the interview by storming onto the set and saying: “I’m not having that, I’m not having you asking them that question. I’ve tried to stop this and I’ve had to walk in here. We’re going.”

The band’s creator Simon Fuller was thought to had a strong hold over both S Club’s image and earnings. According to Hannah, who spoke to The Telegraph in 2016, of the millions the group had made for Simon, the members received less than £200k each a year. They also travelled economy on flights and had to prepare their own food and laundry when working abroad.

Bradley McIntosh explained that the interview hadn’t been planned and came at the end of a long day, just as they were leaving the building. He added that the team agreed to the interview, provided questions about the money was avoided, as they’d been asked that specific question all day and were “knackered”. When asked about how they felt now, Bradley said he had “no problem” with Claudia and understood that she was just doing her job.
