Footballing icon Chris Kamara and EastEnders legend Shaun Williamson have joined forces for this year’s star-studded Lidl Christmas advert – and it does not disappoint

This year, you can have yourself a merry Lidl Christmas with Chris Kamara. The football legend has signed up to be one of the new stars featured in the Lidl Christmas advert.

The ad, released on 3 November, starts with EastEnders star Shaun Williamson, who dons a Lidl Christmas jumper and sings his own version of Slade’s much-loved hit Merry Christmas Everybody.

In his version, the new lyrics are an ode to turkey, prosecco and all the other festive goodies that can be bought at the supermarket.

Keen to spread the joy, Shaun brings his treats to some of his pals, including Chris Kamara, Capital FM star Kemi Rogers and Abi Clarke, one of the new hosts of Strictly: Lights Up.

Chris answers the door to a plate of pigs in blankets whilst wearing a black shirt covered in cartoons of Santa. The star fist pumps the air and yells, “Get in!” when he sees the food in front of him.

He then hits the streets with Shaun, Kemi and Abi to bring festive cheer to their neighbours. As the song winds down, he tells the others that “Lidl is unbelievable!”

After appearing in the ad, television personality and actor Shaun said: “Christmas is all about bringing people together, having fun and spreading a little festive cheer, so I jumped at the chance to help Lidl kick off the festive season in style! Putting a fresh spin on such an iconic Christmas classic was brilliant fun, and I hope it gets everyone smiling, singing along and feeling that little bit of Christmas magic!”

Joanna Gomer, Marketing Director at Lidl GB, added: “There’s no better way to kick off the festive season than with a little music, a lot of fun and a Lidl twist on a Christmas classic!

“This marks the start of our Christmas celebrations at Lidl, with plenty of exciting surprises and festive favourites still to come. We’re looking forward to bringing a little extra sparkle to the season and helping customers get ready for the most wonderful time of the year.”

Many of this year’s Christmas ads have featured celebs, including Debenhams’, whose ad saw Emily Atack and Mathew Horne play childhood friends with crushes on each other.

Tesco’s advert also features Roisin Conaty and Anna Maxwell-Martin as former friends who reconnect, while Argos cast Richard Ayoade as a Scrooge-esque character.
