Slavia Prague vs Arsenal Champions League preview
Arsenal’s week has been a strange mix of the sublime and the ridiculous. A shock EFL Cup exit at League Two Fleetwood was followed by a 1-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday, and Mikel Arteta’s side now head to Prague on Wednesday night looking to keep their Champions League campaign on track against a Slavia side still chasing a first win in Europe.
The Gunners are seventh in the league-phase standings with seven points, after a 1-0 win at Napoli, a 3-0 home win over Lille and a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich. They have been very difficult to break down, conceding just twice in three games, and they have conceded only nine goals in their last 18 Champions League matches, keeping 11 clean sheets in that run.
Arsenal will also be motivated by the memory of last season’s final, when they lost to defending champions PSG on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Slavia have struggled badly in Europe. The Czech champions are 32nd in the table with just one point from their first three games, and they have conceded seven goals. They are now without a win in their last 18 games in UEFA competition, and they have conceded at least twice in eight of their last nine Champions League home games.
Domestically, though, they are flying. Slavia are top of the Czech First League, seven points clear of Mladá Boleslav, and they have kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league. They will also be without towering 6ft 7in striker Tomáš Chorý, who has been frozen out of the squad by his manager.
Arsenal are unbeaten in four previous meetings between the clubs. They thrashed Slavia 7-0 in the 2007-08 Champions League before a 0-0 draw in Prague, and they won 4-0 there in the 2020-21 Europa League quarter-finals after a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
Team News for Slavia Prague v Arsenal
Arsenal are still without Bukayo Saka and William Saliba. Eberechi Eze is a doubt after Arteta revealed he had a problem before the Liverpool game.
Max Dowman’s suspension does not affect this game, as his red card came in the EFL Cup, and Arteta is expected to rotate with Hull City visiting on Saturday.
Slavia are missing four first-team regulars through injury or suspension, as well as Chorý. Defender David Zima is expected to start, and Nigerian youngster David Moses will be one of their key attacking threats.

Slavia Prague vs Arsenal prediction
Slavia’s European record does not make pretty reading and it seems highly unlikely that will improve against a strong Arsenal side.
