Hyderabad: The BJP was confident of coming to power in Telangana and having one of its leaders hoist the National Flag at Golconda Fort, party Karnataka state co-in-charge Kasam Venkateshwarlu said on Tuesday, even as he urged former ABVP activists to work towards bringing the party to power in the state.

Addressing a meeting, ‘A Confluence of Nationalists 2026’, organised by the Nationalist Alumni Association of Osmania University and Kakatiya University at Shubham Convention in Nagole, he recalled the ABVP’s history at Osmania University.

Venkateshwarlu said the campus had “witnessed a period when ABVP activists retaliated against attacks by communist groups.

Many stalwarts who worked in ABVP are present here.

This gathering is an opportunity for all of us to come together and share our views.

Today’s gathering possible because of the sacrifices of several people and that activists had never worked for positions or money.

Our only hope is that the ideology should survive and that we should live for the country,” he said.

Crediting BJP general secretary and Telangana in-charge Sunil Bansal with the party’s victory in West Bengal, Venkateshwarlu said Telangana, too, could see a BJP government.

“The saffron flag must fly on Telangana soil while the Modi-Amit Shah duo is at the helm,” he said, expressing confidence that a BJP leader would hoist the National Flag at Golconda Fort.

He alleged that there was a nationwide conspiracy to suppress nationalists and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with setting a deadline to eliminate Naxalism.

Taking aim at AISA leader Neha Bora for describing the Bangladesh protests which led to the ouster of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an ideal, Venkateshwarlu said her remarks had angered nationalist activists.

He urged ABVP workers to protect their ideology and drive out the Congress, the BRS and what he described as anti-national forces.

Bansal said India had witnessed several important developments over the past 10 to 12 years, including the construction of the Ram temple and the abrogation of Article 370.

He said the country was moving towards freedom from Naxalism, but added that the fight against what he called the remaining “physical Naxalism” needed to continue.

Referring to Modi’s public initiatives and engagements, Bansal cited the Prime Minister visiting from the Pashupatinath temple wearing saffron attire and a rudraksha garland, celebrating Diwali with soldiers at the border in sub-zero temperatures, raising the slogan ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ on American soil and personally taking up a broom as part of the Swachh Bharat campaign.

“Dreams that we had cherished for years are now becoming a reality,” he said, adding that the goal was to see India’s development first-hand and contribute to building a developed nation.

Bansal called for Telangana to become a developed and strong state and urged party workers to work towards bringing change.

He said organisational strength would help build a system in keeping with their ideology.

Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao recalled the difficult circumstances in which ABVP activists worked on university campuses and the challenges they faced while building the organisation.

He also spoke about the hardships of those early years and the determination with which the activists continued their work.

The gathering also felicitated Venkateshwarlu on assuming charge as the BJP’s Karnataka state co-in-charge.
