It has not been the best start for the Miami Heat this season. While Giannis Antetokounmpo has done his best to lead the Heat, he cannot do all of it alone. That responsibility must fall to his co-star, Bam Adebayo.

Unfortunately, Adebayo is in a down year so far. While he has been decent over the past three games, people have seen the lows of Adebayo’s game, especially in the first few games of the season when he truly struggled.
Dwyane Wade has become brutally honest about Bam Adebayo
Before the 2026-27 season started, there was tons of hype surrounding Miami. They just got Giannis Antetokounmpo, so they had the superstar to pair with Adebayo. Unfortunately, it has not worked out so far.
Of course, it is early in their first season together, but it does not look good so far. This has led to fans criticizing Adebayo because it seems that he is the one struggling while Antetokounmpo is thriving despite the lack of wins.

As a Heat player who succeeded with stars throughout his career, Wade knows what it’s like to work with big names. That is why he wants to see Adebayo taking charge of the situation just like he did when he was playing with Shaquille O’Neal early on and LeBron James later in his career.
“He gotta be the number 1 option with the 2nd unit guys. Point blank period. You can’t be a role player with the role players… There’s no rhythm, flow to the game. You’d expect them to be a really good defensive team,” Wade said on his podcast about Adebayo’s role on the Heat.
“They’re not a team yet. Bunch of individual guys that haven’t had uncomfortable conversations yet. They’re great guys individually, but you have to get to some uncomfortable stuff.”

Miami would be so much better if Adebayo does take charge when Antetokounmpo is out. However, he also has to make better choices, so the offense will be much more efficient. Working on his game will do a lot, so he has to take charge and improve as well.
