Noted actress Tabu appears to be devoting more time to Telugu cinema these days, with a couple of interesting projects bringing her back into the spotlight.

The makers of King 100 have unveiled a special glimpse, introducing her as Mahanthi Jhansi Rani on the occasion of her birthday. The piece opens with a powerful voiceover by Tabu, signalling a woman who believes in determination rather than destiny. The sequence builds towards her grand appearance before a massive gathering, where she waves to the people before taking the oath.

Earlier, the makers of Puri Jagannadh’s upcoming pan-India action entertainer Slumdog – 33 Temple Road released a character introduction video featuring Tabu. She plays Gauri Hegde, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, described in the promo as a fearless woman and a powerful officer. The video showcases her commanding screen presence as she confronts people, wields a lathi and delivers a punchy line to Vijay Sethupathi’s character: “In our style, we first shoot and then talk.”

“Tabu is an exceptionally talented actress, and it is interesting to see her explore grey shades and portray powerful characters that befit her stature in her new Telugu films,” says a producer. He adds, “She was a sought-after actress in the 1990s and worked with leading Telugu stars such as Venkatesh, Nagarjuna, Balakrishna and Chiranjeevi, carving a niche for herself in the minds of Telugu audiences. She is returning to Tollywood after a considerable gap and reuniting with Nagarjuna after a long time.”
