A 20-year-old B. Tech student from Telangana jhas died allegedly by suicide in her hostel at Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh on Monday, November 2. Her father has accused a young man of cheating and mentally harassing his daughter.
The student hailed from Buchi Naik Thanda on the outskirts of Chandraiahpalli village in Narsampet mandal of Warangal district. She had been pursuing her third-year B. Tech in Computer Science at the Pandit Dwarka Prasad Mishra Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Jabalpur.
College authorities informed her family about her death in the hostel room. On reaching there, her father lodged a complaint with the Dumna Outpost police in Jabalpur on Tuesday, November 3, alleging that Boda Suman, a youth known to his daughter, is responsible for her death.
According to the complaint, the young student came into contact with Suman through a business and employment-oriented social networking service after uploading her resume for a job. Suman allegedly professed his love for her and promised to marry her before entering into a physical relationship with her.
Suman is reportedly employed with a private software company in Hyderabad. He hails from Amruthanda on the outskirts of Pappayyapeta village in Chennaraopet mandal of Warangal district.
The father alleged that Suman continued relationships with other women despite promising to marry his daughter. He also accused Suman of subjecting her to mental harassment by forcing her to speak to other women through conference calls and mocking her.
The complainant stated that unable to bear the alleged harassment, his daughter reportedly shared her ordeal with a cousin before the Dasara festival.
In the interim, the deceased student’s relatives brought her body to her native village. When they attempted to stage a protest outside Suman’s residence, police intervened and stopped them.
The father urged the police to register a case against Suman on charges of sexual exploitation, cheating her by promising marriage, and harassment and threats.
Police have taken up an investigation. The allegations against Suman are yet to be established.
