HYDERABAD: Director of Excise Enforcement Avinash Mohanty has directed officials to intensify action against intoxicating substances used to adulterate kallu (palm toddy) and raw materials used to make illicit country liquor (naatu saara).
At a meeting held at the Drug Control Administration conference hall on Wednesday, Mohanty presented certificates of appreciation and cash rewards to 16 Excise teams, including the Special Task Force (STF), Enforcement wing and District Task Force (DTF).
Speaking at the meeting, Mohanty called for a robust action plan to curb the trafficking of drugs, ganja (cannabis) and non-duty-paid liquor, as well as the transport of substances such as alprazolam, jaggery and alum. He stressed the need for strict surveillance at supply sources to prevent alprazolam trafficking.
The team led by Rajendranagar circle inspector Praveen Kumar was commended for seizing a revolver, a pistol and ganja. The director presented cash rewards to 16 teams for intercepting ganja, drugs and jaggery, which is often used to make illicit liquor.
Joint commissioner Anjan Rao and in-charge assistant commissioner (Enforcement) Fayazuddin accompanied Mohanty.
