Prakasam: A fishing boat was swept ashore at the Kothapatnam coast in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. As per reports local fishermen found four bodies inside and immediately alerted the police and marine personnel.
Officials believe the boat may have capsized due to the powerful waves caused by Cyclone Murasu. Locals believe that looking at the size of the boat around 15 fishermen would have been aboard the vessel, which appears to have drifted from neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
Kothapatnam police and marine officers rushed to the spot and inspected the boat. Arrangements were made to send the bodies to RIMS hospital for postmortem. Authorities are trying to establish whether the victims are fishermen from neighbouring Tamil Nadu or from local coastal villages.
Marine police and Coast Guard teams, aided by ships and local fishing boats, are combing the sea for the missing fishermen. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
Further details are awaited…
