The Baltimore Ravens made a big move on Wednesday to rescue their season. Baltimore acquired Jacoby Brissett from Arizona to give themselves a new starter after Lamar Jackson’s latest injury. But will Brissett be able to play against the Jaguars on Thursday?

NFL insider Ian Rapoport gave an update on the quarterback position in Baltimore head of Thursday Night Football.

“Now the deal is essentially done, but the actual trade I shouldn’t say is it’s going to be completed today. It’s probably going to be completed after the game for a lot of reasons,” Rapoport said on Thursday via Good Morning Football. “… The Ravens obviously lost Lamar Jackson for the foreseeable future and Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley for the season so they needed a starting quarterback. So they bring over Brissett, who has familiarity with Israel Wolfork, the quarterbacks coach, and does know the system pretty well.”

Rapoport echoed reports that Brissett will likely make his debut in Week 10. One important reason is the trade has yet to be finalized.

“He now can come over and be their starting quarterback, but not tonight. If the deal isn’t finished he’s not on the roster, none of that. So Joe Fagnano, the undrafted free agent, is going to start for the Baltimore Ravens tonight,” Rapoport added. “After that, Brissett’s going to come in, he’s going to learn the system with a couple extra days through the weekend. And then he will likely be the starter next week.

In the meantime, Joe Fagnano will remain the starter in Week 9.

“So the Ravens get through this game, Fagnano starts, [then] try to keep their season afload with Jacoby Brissett, who has plenty of starting experience, waiting on the other side,” Rapoport concluded.

Hopefully Baltimore can get a much-needed win before Brissett takes over the starting job. Unfortunately, they square off against an AFC superpower on TNF.
