Victor Wembanyama’s stat line against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday is something straight out of a video game. The French superstar went off for 52 points, 24 rebounds and eight blocks, powering the San Antonio Spurs to their sixth straight win.
The NBA world was in awe of the show Wembanyama put on. Wemby, though, sees room for improvement.

“I can still do more,” Wembanyama said postgame. “My shots weren’t falling tonight and that forces me into a style of play that is exhausting. I can do it. I mean the proof is here. I can do it, but I can be much better if my shots fall. I know it’s just a matter of time.”
If that’s not the best we’re going to see from Wembanyama, the rest of the NBA is in trouble. The 22-year-old made 16 of his 28 shots and converted 19 of his 23 free throw attempts. His only flaw was going 1 of 8 from 3-point range, and that speaks to an off shooting night for the Spurs as a whole as Mitch Johnson’s team shot 14% on 36 attempts.
Wembanyama is sitting at a mere 24% from 3 this season, but even the threat of him shooting from deep opens opportunities for him to get the basket and finish above defenders with his 7-foot-4 frame. Once his shot starts falling consistently, nights like Wednesday could be more common than anyone could’ve imagined.

The Spurs are appointment viewing on NBA League Pass thanks to Wembanyama.
