Piers Morgan has reignited discussion about his controversial interview with Russell Brand after sharing a clip of the convicted rapist struggling to find a Bible passage on his show

Piers Morgan has reignited discussion about his controversial interview with Russell Brand after sharing a clip of the convicted rapist struggling to find a Bible passage on his show.

The presenter reposted the footage on X after it was shared by another user, adding a remark about Brand’s apparent religious devotion.

“I remember thinking at the time that if he was this fake about his supposed devotion to the Bible, what else could we believe?” Piers wrote.

The clip has resurfaced after Brand was convicted on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

The 51-year-old was found guilty following a trial in which he faced seven charges relating to allegations made by six women. He was acquitted of three counts, while the charges dated back to incidents between 1999 and 2009.

Brand has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing on Monday, with the judge warning that “obviously a custodial sentence of some length will result”.

It has also emerged that Brand is being investigated over further rape allegations made by two women.

The original exchange with Piers took place during an appearance on his YouTube programme, Piers Morgan Uncensored, in April.

During the interview, Piers asked Brand to share a passage from the Bible that had been particularly meaningful to him. Brand said he wanted to read a verse he had looked at before a recent court hearing.

He then produced a Bible and began searching for the passage, which he said was from the book of Isaiah.

However, after spending around 90 seconds looking through the pages, Brand admitted he could not find the exact verse he had intended to share.

“The verse that I was looking at that day was… Not this… I can’t actually find the verse that I had that day,” he said, before settling on another passage.

The awkward moment quickly spread across social media, with viewers questioning the exchange.

Brand later returned to the subject in a video posted on X, explaining that he was still trying to locate the original passage.

He eventually read Isaiah 43:18-19, which includes the words: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.”

The interview also saw Brand discuss his past relationship with a 16-year-old girl when he was 30. He admitted that the relationship had been “exploitative” and said he now considered his actions morally and spiritually wrong.

Speaking to Piers, he said: “It’s not nice to know that my actions have contributed to a person’s suffering.”

He added: “I would say, Piers, on a personal level, that’s wrong. It’s morally and spiritually wrong, it’s legal. It’s not a legal issue.”

Piers had also faced questions from viewers about Brand’s behaviour during the interview, after footage showed the comedian repeatedly touching his arm and shoulder.

One viewer asked whether the presenter had been bothered by the physical contact, describing it as “extremely condescending”.

Responding at the time, Piers said: “It was a bit weird, yes. Never had a guest be so inappropriately tactile during an interview, which surprised me given the allegations against him.”
