UConn vs. Michigan prediction, odds: Elliot Cadeau to shine in national championship rematch

It has been seven months since Michigan capped off its best season in school history with a national championship win over Connecticut.

The Huskies won’t have to wait long to see the Wolverines again as the two teams will go head-to-head Friday in the Hall of Fame Series at TD Garden in Boston.

The No. 4-ranked Huskies are 5.5-point favorites over the No. 16-ranked Wolverines, and UConn will likely have the crowd behind it with Storrs just 90 minutes down the road.

Much has changed for the Wolverines in seven months.

Former head coach Dusty May and Morez Johnson are in Dallas with the Mavericks.

Yaxel Lendeborg is making headlines for the Warriors with his postgame comments and play on the court. Aday Mara has fit neatly with the Thunder as their backup center.

But the player who had his one shining moment in the national title game, Elliot Cadeau, returned to Ann Arbor for his senior season after winning Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

With all the departures over the summer, he has a great opportunity to build on his success from the tournament.

The knock on Cadeau when he played for North Carolina was his poor jump shooting and overall lack of aggression as a scorer.

Last season, he upped his 3-point shooting to 37.6 percent from 33.7 percent, but his performance in the title game showed the full range of his game.

Cadeau has always been a floor general and good passer, but he was decisive about getting in the paint and finishing through contact or getting fouled.

His shot was off in Michigan’s season opener against Oakland — that didn’t matter much as the Wolverines won by 16 — but Cadeau seems intent on being more aggressive as a scorer based on what he showed in his three exhibition games.

His points and assists prop for this game is 18, and I like the Over. The combination of him getting to the line and hitting the occasional open 3-pointer should buoy his scoring, and the passing is a given.

The Play: Elliot Cadeau 18+ Points + Assists (-110, DraftKings)
