STAMFORD – The top-seeded Greenwich girls volleyball team made it two in a row, beating No. 2 Trumbull 3-1 (25-21, 25-27, 25-22, 25-13) Friday night at Stamford High to claim back-to-back FCIAC championships.
It is the fifth overall championship for the Cardinals, who remained unbeaten (20-0) heading into the CIAC tournament.

“It’s so exciting and such an amazing feeling, and I am so proud of my whole team,” Greenwich junior libero Bailee Dayon said. “I think we set up a very great block the last two sets and it made it easier for me to read.”
Dayon was in fact able to read the Trumbull attack well, recording 27 digs in the match to go along with 13 assists and 15 service points, many of which came when Greenwich needed them the most.
“(Dayon) is just great all the time,” Greenwich coach Marianna Linnehan said. “She is fantastic. That girl can just dig every ball. When Mckenzyi (Bell of Trumbull) was in the front row, she was killing us and we really fixed that in the last two sets.”
For Greenwich, Kayah Armstrong had 20 kills and two blocks, Heidi Zieme had 16 digs and 14 kills, Victoria Sullivan had 15 digs and 25 assists, and Beatriz Lisboa Da Cunha De Freitas had 20 assists and nine digs.

Bell was stellar all night at the net for Trumbull, delivering 17 kills.
“I thought sets one through three we did exactly what we had to do, but in set four, we kind of ran out of steam a bit,” Trumbull coach Nicole Trommelen said. “It was fun for a big stretch of that game watching Mckenzyi go.”
After splitting the first two sets, Trumbull (19-2) led most of the third until Greenwich took its first lead at 21-20.
Trumbull’s only loss of the regular season came to Greenwich. Those were the only two sets Greenwich dropped during the regular season in going unbeaten.
Greenwich will be the No. 1 seed in the Class LL tournament, which begins next week, while Trumbull will be the No. 3 seed. Both teams have first-round byes and will begin play in the second round Nov. 12.
