'Idea Was To Place Ranbir's Face On Mine', Dhurandhar Actor Shares He Played 'Parshuram' In Ramayana

Ramayana: The Rise of A Legend has left the viewers stunned. From Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of ‘Ram’ to Sai Pallavi’s outstanding grace as ‘Sita’, and Yash showcasing what it takes to be a major highlight in a 4000-crore movie, Nitesh Tiwari left the audience baffled. With immense dedication and hard work, and by unfolding deeper layers of the well-known epic, the movie took the experience to the next level.

Spoiler Alert

Part 1 of Ramayana, ended when ‘Ravan’ abducted ‘Sita’ to Lanka, and ‘Jatayu’ breathed his last while informing ‘Ram’ about the same, after a battle with ‘Lankadhipati’. While people thought Part 2 would be released next year, it was confirmed that the second part will be released in 2028. The movie ended with ‘Ram’, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, taking an oath to bring his wife back, and the entire movie takes the audience by surprise, be it with the visuals or the performance.

‘Parshuram’ in the Ramayana was not only played by Ranbir Kapoor, but also by another actor

Thousands of people worked on the movie, and while some are known, some aren’t. But one thing is certain, the audience missed that it wasn’t only Ranbir Kapoor who played ‘Parshuram’, Lord Vishnu’s sixth avatar. When ‘Ram’ married ‘Sita’ and was on his way to Ayodhya, he met ‘Parshuram’, who gave him the divine bow after recognising him. While the audience thought it was Ranbir, who played the role, actor Abhay Arora also contributed to the portrayal.

For those who are thinking that it was a typical body double, it was not. The makers were clear from the beginning that they wanted to maintain the similarities between ‘Ram’, ‘Parshuram’, and ‘Vishnu’s’ appearances. It was decided before Arora, who acted as ‘Yasir Arafat’ in Dhurandhar, was cast in Ramayana.

Arora sat for an interview with SCREEN and revealed the same. He also mentioned that both Ranbir and he had to give the entire performance for the role of ‘Parshuram’, and later it was merged. Speaking more about the same, Abhay said:

“When I was cast, they told me, ‘You actually look like bhagwan Parshuram in it, from what we have seen. But, now we have taken a creative call, and would you still like to do this?’ And, I wanted to contribute to the film. The idea was to put Ranbir’s face on me and keep both the performances. So, they have kept some of the shots which are completely mine, and some of the shots which are Ranbir’s. It is not just a body double, it’s a complete performance, which is the same.”

Abhay Arora described the scenes that actually featured him as ‘Parshuram’ in the film. He said he was the first to give the shot for the role, followed by Ranbir. The two actors’ performances were identical, and the makers later merged them to create ‘Parshuram’, making it another amazing sequence in the movie. Abhay said:

“It’s me who is sitting and giving the bow, wherever Ranbir is standing, it’s all my shots. It was a part of the agreement between the makers and me that they will have to show the relevance between the avatars of Bhagwan Vishnu. Performance-wise, it was identical. I had performed it a day before and then we did the blocking, we did all the discussions and then it was performed later by him (Ranbir), and then later on, they merged both the performances.”

More about Ramayana: The Rise of A Legend

The audience is in awe, and in simple terms, after watching the film, there’s a debate on social media about critics’ comments that the movie is slow-paced. Yash, in particular, grabbed significant attention, and so did Sai Pallavi. Ranbir Kapoor brought everything to his character, and he didn’t have to scream that he’s ‘Ram’, he delivered the same, effortlessly through his actions.

Now, coming to another much-talked-about sequence, where ‘Jatayu’ fought with ‘Ravan’, almost everyone who watched the film is calling it a favourite, and the tag is well-earned, as Nitesh Tiwari just revealed that it took them 6.5 years and thousands and thousands of people to complete that one single sequence.
