Kirkwood Sports, the 65-acre soccer, lacrosse and field hockey facility, is now Sprinturf Performance Park at Kirkwood following a $10 million improvement project by BPG Sports.

Work on upgrades began earlier this year to transition four grass field to turf, install stadium lighting, expand the parking infrastructure and renovate the indoor turn arena.

Buccini Pollin Group’s sports management firm celebrated the capital improvements completion on Oct. 29 with an evening of free, open play and Halloween activities that was attended by nearly 500 kids and their families, according to a release from the firm.

“Sprinturf is a major draw for Delaware, and we’re proud to invest in a top-of-the-line facility that will keep bringing coaches, players, families, and out-of-state dollars to our community,” BPG founder Rob Buccini said in a release. “These capital improvements will solidify the complex as a premier tournament destination for many years to come.”

BPG Sports held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 29 to celebrate the completion of $10 million in capital improvements to Sprinturf Performance Park, formerly Kirkwood Sports.

The facility’s name change comes after BPG Sports designated turf manufacturer Sprinturf its official turf partner across its portfolio and as the exclusive title naming rights partner of the facility near New Castle.

Other work on the facility included adding additional parking lots, which reduced the 14-field complex to 12 fields.

Sprinturf Performance Park has partnered with ParkMobile, a parking app that lets visitors reserve parking spots in advance or pay on-site using their phone.

BPG Sports signed a 25-year lease in 2024 with New Castle County to manage and operate the complex.

As part of the agreement, BPG Sports will provide $50,000 per year in scholarships to youth participating in programming at Kirkwood.

Funding for the improvements included $4 million in grant funding from the Delaware Sports Tourism Capital Investment Fund.

The facility draws more than 1.5 million annual visitors and hosts 19 large-scale tournaments each year, according to BPG Sports

BPG Sports’ portfolio also includes Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, DE Turf in Frederica and Sports at the Beach in Georgetown, hosting more than 4 million visitors per year and more than 10,000 events.
